Indian Headdress

This is a photo that was taken before the headdress was to be worn in the celebration of the blessing of the animals. It was actually one of the most beautiful things that I had ever seen. I have always been attracted to Indian's ceremonial wear, even though my knowledge of these things are quite limited.

I am from Savannah, Georgia and there are a great deal of Cherokee Indians in the Carolinas where there are a number of artisans, and the things that they make are just colorful and beautiful. My daughter's great-grandmother is said to be Cherokee, and she has also been drawn to this craftsmanship even as a little girl.

The various things that makes a statement about a people and their culture is always of interest to me. To us, these things are simply beautiful and decorative, but to those that craft them, there is much more, and it is this much more than I want to know. There is the why, and the how, of their craftsmanship, that is intriguing to me.
